Duke of Edinburgh - Silver Expedition

17th Oct, 2025 09:43am

On the 11st August, young people from our CACT Duke of Edinburgh programme set off on their adventures to take on completing their silver award.

The CACT Duke of Edinburgh programme has given our young people an opportunity to step out of their comfort zones and experience the challenge of a true outdoor expedition. The purpose of the expedition is to encourage teamwork, independence, and resilience while developing practical skills such as navigation, planning, and problem-solving. It is also designed to help participants discover the value of perseverance and self-confidence as they face new and unfamiliar situations.

This year, the group set out on foot through the Ashdown Forest, navigating across open heathland and woodland trails with heavy rucksacks and determined spirits. The expedition was a fantastic success. Every participant showed great energy, maturity, and commitment to supporting one another. They worked well as a team, managed their routes effectively, and demonstrated how well they had prepared for the challenge. Spirits remained high throughout, and it was clear how much they were enjoying the chance to achieve something meaningful together.

The experience was not only about the physical challenge, but also about the friendships and sense of accomplishment gained along the way. From setting up camp to cooking their own meals, every task became a chance to build confidence and independence.

The expedition has been a clear reminder of why the Duke of Edinburgh Award is such a valuable opportunity. Our young people not only rose to the challenge, but did so with determination and enthusiasm, leaving with memories and skills that will last far beyond the programme.
