Young Greenwich take part in our Community Match Day against Southampton at The Valley

1st Dec, 2025 13:09pm

On Saturday, 22nd November, Young Greenwich participants joined other groups within Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) in celebration at the Charlton Athletic vs Southampton game at The Valley as part of the club’s community-themed matchday for the 2025/26 season. The Trust has continued to go from strength to strength recently, having enjoyed further success alongside the club’s men’s and women’s first teams.

Our young people and staff not only got to watch the game, but also got the opportunity to take part in the half-time parade walk around the pitch in front of over 20,000 home and away supporters, marking the great things that have been happening over the past year at CACT. Our annual Community Day provides an opportunity to celebrate all our achievements and highlight the wide-reaching impact of CACT’s work across our community.

As part of the day, two of our young participants were lucky enough to be selected to compete in a half-time challenge to win a prize in partnership with the club and Panini, who were launching the brand-new EFL 2025/26 season sticker collection.

George and Lucas (our Young Greenwich participants) came runners-up in the ‘how close can you get?’ challenge, but still had a great time taking on others within CACT on behalf of Young Greenwich on the pitch.

Additionally, recent data for the financial year ending March 31st, 2025, showed that CACT worked with more than 28,000 people through its wide range of programmes. Among these participants were over 1,100 people mentored across south-east London and Kent, while 85% of Young Greenwich Learning Hub participants reported improved educational aspirations. CACT also supported 3,170 referrals for cost-of-living support and distributed £13,660 worth of fuel voucher payments, demonstrating its continued commitment to a vision of healthy, happy, resilient and thriving communities.
