“I enjoyed making different hampers for different people and spreading the Christmas cheer”

On Tuesday 17 December, Young Greenwich Partner, Skills & Care Greenwich teamed up with Home Instead Senior Care; the award winning, specialised home care service for the elderly, and Leigh Academy to deliver an event to end the year.

26 year 8 students from Leigh Academy worked together, creating unique Christmas hampers to be donated to members of Home Instead Senior Care.

Delighted about the day, Sonia from Skills & Care Greenwich said:

“It has been an overwhelming feeling having the young people from Leigh Academy work with us today. From their lovely messages to their teamwork, they brought in the true Christmas Spirit with gifts going to the right people.”

The group were aiming to make 15 hampers but with the Christmas spirit, excellent team work and unique creativity, a total of 80 hampers were made along Christmas cards with greetings and messages from the young people.

Working on the visual aesthetics of the gifts and packaging of the food, Amari from Leigh Academy said:

“I like doing this to help other people especially people in need.”

Also part of the hamper making team with her peers, Ria said:

“I feel like you interact more than you do in class which is more focussed on studying but after you get to have more time to spend and have fun."

Charlotte, Leigh Academy student said:

“I think it’s a really nice thing to do because you’re doing things for other people.

I hope the gifts we made will make them happy and hope they have a better Christmas with them.”

Young Greenwich would like to thank Skills & Care Greenwich, Leigh Academy and Home Instead Senior care for coming together at Valley Central Youth Hub to bring the Christmas spirit and share their work to others.

“I am really happy that we got to do it and happy that all the charities are working together towards a better future.”
