The Trust recently supported a Summer Fun Day held at Horn Park, in Lee, which welcomed a number of activities for young people to take part in.
The Trust set up a seven-a-side football pitch, for young people to take part in small-sided games throughout the day and also held a penalty shootout, which was won by 12-year-old Joe Grogan.
Following some exciting qualifying rounds for the penalty shootout, Joe emerged the winner and was rewarded with a £20 voucher to spend in JD Sports.
Joe Grogan said, “It was fantastic this afternoon and we all had a good time. I will use the vouchers to buy some new trainers.”
The event, which was run in partnership with the Royal Borough of Greenwich and Horn Park Friends, was a huge success. As well as footballing opportunities, there was a climbing wall, slide and a performance by the children of the Horn Park Choir.
Janet, from Horn Park Friends, commented, “It was a lovely day and unlike last year, sunny! The staff from Charlton Athletic Community Trust were fantastic and all the young people who attended really enjoyed the day.”
Matt Horne, Greenwich Youth Service Partnership Manager, added, “We have been working at Horn Park for a number of years now and have built a solid relationship with the community and it’s young people. Day’s like this bring it all together. Thanks must go to Royal Greenwich for funding this project.”
