With support from the Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT), Greenwich Dance run dance classes for young people called NRgXTRA.
One of the groups participating in these dance is based at St Ursula’s Convent School in Greenwich. The sessions are delivered by hip hop dance artist and choreographer Hakeem Onibudo who invited NRgXTRA to a sharing at Chelsea Academy in December 2014.
Greenwich Dance has been working with St Ursula’s School for a number of years and has been able to offer them many opportunities with support from CACT.
This autumn the group have been rehearsing each week to make a hip hop performance piece for a dance sharing at Chelsea Academy, a large secondary school which has its own dance studio and theatre. It was a great opportunity for students from NRgXTRA to perform and see work from other groups of young people from across London.
“Greenwich Dance was pleased to facilitate this exchange organised by dance artist Hakeem Onibudo, said Caron Loudy, Artistic Programme Manager at Greenwich Dance.
“It was a good opportunity for the girls to see other performances from dancers their age. They looked really proud of themselves and I know their teacher from St Ursula’s Ms Nash was very pleased with their performance”.
The young dancers came away feeling proud of the piece they had created with their dance artist Hakeem Onibudo. This term NRgXTRA will be making a new dance for From the Front to the Back a show at Greenwich Dance in March 2015.
