Paul Hannaford visits West Thamesmead Youth Club

Thursday 27th February 2014

This week West Thamesmead Youth Club was visited by ex-drug addict and gang member Paul Hannaford.

Formally heavily involved in gang life and a Heroin and Crack Cocaine addict, Paul uses his real life experiences to deliver workshops across the country in schools and youth clubs educating children and young people about the dangers of drug and gang related activity.

Paul’s hard hitting story tells how he started life as a bright, active young person but by the age of eighteen was a fully pledged gang member and involved in a range of drugs.  Paul’s story had a profound impact on the group; “I can’t believe some of the things he said and the pictures he showed us, it was so shocking.”

“Paul has done a number of workshops at our youth clubs; it’s really valuable to have someone with first-hand experience of the pitfalls of gang life and drugs to share their story.”  Matt Horne Youth Service Partnership Manager.

Paul will be visiting other youth clubs in the area, “If I can help save one life I will be happy.”
