The majority of young people in the older session (12-19) at Hawksmoor Youth Club in Thamesmead have had some sort of experience with Music production, either through their school or with the youth centre prior. A particular young person is Monique Mahagwa. When we first started the sessions Monique had demonstrated a lack of confidence which was no surprise as she was having her first experience working with sound engineering. We had to ensure Monique received lots of encouragement during sessions, to increase her self- belief. By regular attendance and further encouragement, we have seen a huge improvement in the confidence in her willingness to be involved in sound engineering and the music project in general. This has led to a major progression. Now Monique is using the knowledge and experience she has gained delivering sessions for her friends. She is improving with every session, not only technically but also in personal way. Monique has great potential and if she continues in this manner, great things will come from her.
Matt Horne Youth Service Partnership Manager said “This story is a great example of partnerships working together to enhance the lives of young people in Greenwich. With the aid of the funding received from Royal Greenwich we are delivering a quality project with positive outcomes with one of our partners London Urban Arts in one of our main youth hubs”
