Young Greenwich volunteer Jay wins award for outstanding achievement with Skills & Care Greenwich.

Tuesday 10th April 2018

Skills & Care Greenwich is a partner of Young Greenwich, specialising in health and well-being for local people across the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

Jay has been a volunteer for Skills & Care Greenwich for 5 years, helping with IT support and general contribution to the organisation. Jay got more involved on the ground supporting and volunteering, when his mum was diagnosed with a rare form of Cancer in her right hand.

Taking on his passion for helping communities, Jay created an innovative way for local group and Charities to connect through social media and worked with Neighbourly – an initiative where charities, businesses and communities come together to start and support local projects.

Working with Neighbourly, Jay was able to get Marks & Spencer’s surplus from Charlton, Woolwich and Bexley which was redistributed around the Borough to different community Groups and Charities. Up to 12,000 free meals delivered by volunteers which was managed by Jay using social media to keep people connected.

Jay thoroughly enjoys and is exceptionally proud of his contribution to his community. In 2017 together with Team London Mayor Award he was also awarded the Academic Achievement Award.

Exceptionally proud of his contribution to his community, Jay said:

"Volunteering and Contributing my Community makes me happy and proud, always have a new venture to look forward to"

With the help of Jay’s work, community members started to get more active, eat healthier, reaching other vital services and social cohesion. It’s great to see a different and innovative way of bringing people together and the impact it makes in the community.
