Anish Kapoor (extract from interview airing tonight at 16:00)
Ailbhe Waterhouse, a 21 year old reporter for Reprezent 107.3FM, Londons only ‘youth-led’ Radio station, interviewed celebrated artist Anish Kapoor on the day that his newest work was revealed across the world using social media platforms.
Anish used this interview to discuss the direct political message he was hoping to convey in his ‘GangnamforFreedom’ YouTube video that was a response to the Chinese Governments withdrawal of the original parody of ‘Gangnam’ that was recorded by promoinent Chinese dissident ‘Ai WeiWei.
On the day that student demonstrations were being held in London, Ailbhe questioned Anish on his personal reasons for creating the ‘GangnamforFreedom’ video, what role his art has in politics and wether there is a loss of political motivation with young people in the UK.
Anish also lambasts the UK’s current Prime Minister, considers the failures of the older generation to make change and talks about finding his political voice.
Interviewing Anish Kapoor was Ailbhe’s second assignment with Reprezent 107.3FM
