A group of young people from Cray Meadows, who regularly attend sessions with the Trust, were treated to an entertaining game of football at The Valley recently.
Many of the young people had never been to a live football match, so this was a new experience for most. The whole group were quickly getting involved with chants of “Red Army” and picking up the words for “Valley, Floyd Road”.
During the game, there was a lot of knowledge-sharing between the young people. The more advanced players from the group were explaining to the novices some of the rules (i.e. the offside rule, and how you cannot throw the ball directly into the goal from a throw in!).
Leanne O’Neil, aged 17, said, ‘I have never been to a live football match before and I really enjoyed it. I learnt a lot of rules about football, which I didn’t know. I would really like to attend a match again in the future. Thanks to Charlton for giving us the tickets’.
