Congratulations to Acelya Toprak, of the Metro Judo Club, who has just been voted Junior Female player of the year by the British Judo Association.
Acelya, who attends Ravensbourne School, has been a member of Metro Judo Club since the age of 5 and has competed at the European Judo championships.
Mick Murphy, from Metro Judo said “A big Thank you to Matt Horne and Dean Redwood of the Charlton Athletic Community Trust, for all their support in helping Acelya, win this award.”
Congratulations to Georga Halloumas of The Metro Judo Club, who as part of her Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme, was selected to represent England, at the 2016 Schools Games, held last month at Loughborough University.
Young Greenwich partners with Metro Judo Club to deliver free Judo sessions for young people who live or study in Royal Greenwich.
Meeting every Wednesday and Friday at Thomas Tallis School, Metro Judo has been active in the borough for nearly 40 years. It has nurtured many top judokas, most notable Greenwich-born Gemma Gibbons, who won the Silver medal at the 2012 Olympics.
