As part of our partnership with Greenwich Healthy Living Service we deliver a weekly Healthy Eating session with adults at Valley Central. Arranged to coincide with the school holidays, a special family session was arranged with young people from the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
The session successfully raised young people’s awareness around healthy eating. The young people along with their families had to organise, cook and then eat a healthy meal.
Youth Service Partnership Manager, Matt Horne said, “Intergenerational & family sessions can be very effective and this healthy eating session was no different. It was fantastic to see the families working together to create a healthy meal.”
Earlier in the year, as part of the change4life summer roadshow, we linked up with the Greenwich Co-operative Development Agency who held a series of free parent and child healthy eating sessions at Valley Central in the Charlton Athletic Stadium grounds.
The aim of the sessions were mainly to get children interested in cooking, with the emphasis on healthy eating, in a fun and interactive way. The theme for the session was picnic lunches, which allowed the children to show their creative skills, making fruit kebabs, fruit flans and various types of sandwiches.
One of the mums who attended the session said, “I feel that this was the right age for children to start learning the importance of good nutrition and I hope that there will be more sessions that will run throughout the year.”
