A new Charlton representative football team was recently established, following a high amount of interest from young people attending sessions across the Royal Borough of Greenwich and they are recruiting for players.
The rep team is made up of young people aged 16-19. Since the formation of the team there has been an increase in new young people coming to different sessions and showing an interest in becoming involved in football activities.
There has also been a regular participation and attendance from various individuals who would normally have a staggered attendance towards the session.
Matt Horne, Greenwich Youth Service Partnership Manager, commented, “Using the coaching sessions to help and guide the young people at what is potentially a difficult age has been a great motivator to encourage them to continuously attend. As a result of this there have been a number of young people who have led various warm up exercises during sessions which will give them the experience of what it is like to be a coach and a leader of a group.”
To date, the team has played a number of games against local Sunday league teams and will soon face a rep team from Millwall. The first leg is set to be played at Samuel Montagu Youth Club with the return leg for Millwall being played at the new Damilola Taylor Centre in Peckham soon after.
