Tuesday 4th February 2014
The finals of the Perform:2014 took place at Valley Central Youth Club last week, with the standard proving so high, three acts were chosen as the winners and will go on to perform at the IndigO2.
Perform:2014 is a competition designed for young performers, aged 10-19 (up to 25 with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities), living in the Greenwich and Bexley boroughs.
After receiving over 100 entries, 14 young people were invited to attend the Perform:2014 finals at Valley Central. The standard of talent was so high, that the number of winning acts chosen was increased from 2 to 3.
The 14 finalists were asked to perform 1 song of their choice at the finals, in front of a judging panel made up of Capital Breakfast Show host and Trust Ambassador Dave Berry, Cllr Jackie Smith the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s Cabinet Member of Children’s Service and Matt Horne Valley Central and Youth Service Partnership Manager.
The winning acts chosen were 18 year old Autumn Sharif, three piece group M.I.A and 14 year old Lauren Jenkins.
These three winning acts will now get the chance to perform at a charity gig headlined by pop rock band Lawson, and featuring Nina Nesbitt, on Thursday 13th February 2014, at the IndigO2.
Autumn said, “I am very grateful to have been given this opportunity. This will be my biggest performance yet and I’m so excited.”
Lauren Jenkins added, it’s not about what you’ve got, it’s what you make of what you’ve got. I hope everyone enjoys my performance.”
Dave Berry, who helped to judge the winning acts and will host next week’s concert, commented, ‘I have to say we’ve chosen three fantastic acts, Autumn has a beautiful, powerful voice, M.I.A who are hugely talented and write their own songs and Lauren Jenkins for someone so young, has such a soulful voice.
All three acts are from South East London, which is a demonstration of the brilliant talent there is locally and I’m sure they will all give a great performance on the night. These winning acts will now get the chance to perform at our charity gig headlined by Lawson and featuring the girl who is going to own 2014, Nina Nesbitt, it's quite a line up I tell you!”
There are still some tickets remaining for the concert, which is raising funds for the Trust and Help a Capital Child.
